History:
The Club was formed in 1841, when the first general meeting was held in the Kings Arms Hotel on July 21st of that year. The subscriptions were set at five shillings per year, payable in two installments, a not inconsiderable sum in those days.
The forming and laying down of the green behind the old Royal Bank of Scotland premises was completed at a cost of £13-18-7 in old money, the first game being played on August 14th of that year.

Following amalgamation with the Victoria Club in 1899, the club was forced to relocate to its present position. During the early 1900's, following a donation of 1,000 guineas from a Mr William Morton of Moseley, Birmingham, the Morton recreational grounds were formed, with four tennis courts, two six rink bowling greens and a croquet lawn.
Much change took place before and after the war years, green three being laid down in 1938, and green four in 1949. The clubhouse saw many makeshift improvements over these years, but it was not until 1961 that the building was extended giving us the clubhouse as it stands today.
The Club now provides an important sporting, recreational and social base for a large number of families in the Girvan area, and also contributes to the local tourist trade by attracting over 2,000 national and international visitors to the town each year.
Preparing the ground:
Girvan Bowling Club is engaged in an improvement program to ensure that their premises are at their best for the 2001 World Blind Bowling Championships, which includes:
This project entails liaison with South Ayrshire Council, Sport Scotland, and other organisations, presenting significant opportunities for sponsorship and publicity to those wishing to be associated with this unique sporting occasion.
Promotional Opportunities:
GBC are
interested in discussing promotional opportunities with anyone wishing to be
associated with this major event.
Outside of the 2001 Championship, the Club already attracts in excess of 2,000
visitors per year, it being targeted to more than double this number as a result
of the facilities upgrade. There are therefore more lasting opportunities for
publicity beyond 2001.
There has already been significant press interest, as demonstrated by the coverage
of the Official Launch, and it is expected that the presence of a member of
the Royal family would dramatically increase this interest.
Consideration will also be given to the sale of promotional goods not conflicting
with those on offer by GBC and the IBBA. It is planned that a marquee will be
set aside for this purpose, and GBC will be pleased to discuss this opportunity
with relevant shopkeepers and businesses.
